Why is it ... (Retailers)

... seek to 'screw' us when it comes to purchasing items? The United States was found on many moral, not necessarily religious principles. With that in mind, why is that we have to ensure our own goodwill with an eye to caution when shopping?

As I read this article (A Map to Grocery Store Savings: http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/108916/a-map-to-grocery-store-savings), like I have so many before it, and with much appreciation, too, I wondered why do we have to always 'gamble' in a democracy? So, I'm not so sure we do live in a democracy as much as I fear we live in an financial oligarchy. See Congress and the White House for more info on this ...

Why is it when I buy a near slab of 'discount-priced' chicken quarters that I find a half pound of useless fat tucked underneath the thigh / leg joint? Talk about a butcher's thumb! Better yet, when I buy a "family package" of steaks, why is it that I find an undersized cut that looks good in packaging view, but it clearly a rip-off when the packaging is removed?
